Tokyo Fire Department Musashino Fire Station Kichijoji Branch Office Building

Kichijoji Fire Station
This project involved the reconstruction of a fire station building on the same site, located close to the busy shopping district of Kichijoji. As there is a boundary line within the site and strict legal regulations regarding shadow and setbacks are in place, we used reverse shadow calculations to ensure maximum building volume and enhanced internal functionality despite the small size.
Based on research into the texture, shape, and type of finishing materials of the buildings around the site, the exterior was constructed using jointless spandrel steel plates, which gives the building a smooth surface from a distance, creating a distinctive presence while blending in with the surrounding landscape.
As various pieces of equipment were exposed inside the garage, the equipment, fixtures, ceiling and floor were all painted the same color to unify the whole, creating a contrast with the fire engines and adjacent trees. The aim was to create a building that would be loved and used by citizens for a long time as a local disaster prevention base.
