Nippori Station Police Box

Nippori Station Police Box
This police box was planned under the contradictory conditions of blending in with the buildings and chaotic environment surrounding Nippori Station Square, while at the same time ensuring that its presence is clearly visible and recognizable.
While ensuring the function of a police station on a small site was a given, the design took into consideration the local characteristics and landscape, and 1) the walls were unadorned and monochromatic to ensure visibility, 2) a rectangular volume was used that is common to the surrounding landscape, and 3) linear and knitted elements were incorporated to evoke the textile district of fabric wholesalers.
After undergoing several changes over a long period of time, a tiny police box was built on a small island in the rotary in front of the station.
